Growing up in the White Mountains of NH and the Western Mountains of Maine, being outside was where I spent most of my time whether it was skiing, hiking, biking or just going for a run. My desire to create beauty and healing in the outdoors started with a Pocket garden , a lawn that needed mowing and a kind Landlord who let me do the work outside in exchange for rent while I put myself thru Graduate School in Portsmouth, NH. Little did I know then that it was the birth of Gardening By Tess. It was that one garden, that one experience that made such a huge impact on my life's path. My hope is to create Beautiful outdoor spaces that enhance lives and give peace to those who need it. I am truly blessed to do what I do.
Gardening By Tess started out as a fulfillment of a dream. As the daughter of an Entrepenuer, I knew that working for myself was going to be a rewarding challenge if done with Honesty, Integrity and lots of hard work.
We have grown slowly to stay true to our core values and continue to give the close customer attention to detail that has made our clients use our services year after year.
I believe that it is a Privilege to not only be a Small Business owner but a Steward to the Earth. We support that by working Sustainability into our daily Gardening practices. We recycle all Yard Debris, Nursery Containers, and practice Water Consevation in all our Designs and Gardens.
Being of Service to our Community is vital to the my own Core Values. Currently, I am honored to Volunteer with the Denver Master Gardeners.
As a Family, my husband, Page Phillips and I created a Healing Garden at The Children's Hospital In Denver, Colorado in honor of our son and Hero , Cash Scanlon Phillips. We lost Cash to Spinal Muscular Atrophy in May of 2007. Cash was 4 months old.
We have created this Garden at Children's so other Families may have a place of beauty and respite from the Hospital walls.
In 2011 The Cash Scanlon Phillips Foundation was created to continue to honor our son's mighty spirit by helping other Children through Music, Gardens, and Laughter.
